Laserafstandmeter voor satellieten

Onze aardkost beweegt en gehele continenten verschuiven ten enkele millimeters tot centimeters per jaar. Om deze bewegingen goed ik kaart te brengen is het noodzakelijk nauwkeurig de beweging van de aardkorst te meten op plaatsen die tienduizenden kilometers van elkaar verwijderd zijn. De afstanden moeten daartoe met een nauwkeurigheid van circa 1 cm bepaald worden. De laser afstandmeettechniek via satellieten biedt deze mogelijkheid.
