De ‘Infrarood gaswolkscanner’, of IGC-scanner, werd in 1985 bij TNO ontwikkeld met het doel om specifieke gascomponenten in de werkomgeving snel kwantitatief te kunnen meten en de verspreiding ervan in beeld te brengen, zodat controlemetingen voor de gezondheid van de werkomgeving zonodig ook informatie voor het verbeteren van de situatie beschikbaar is.
