Elektronen tonen het bewerken met ionen

Een mooi huwelijk zou je het samengaan van Philips Electron Optics en FEI Company in 1997 kunnen noemen. Hun specialisaties vullen elkaar naadloos aan: Philips Electron Optics produceert sinds 1949 elektronenmicroscopen en FEI Company levert sinds 1971 ionenbundelsystemen. Met de laatste kunnen producten op micrometer- en zelfs nanoschaal worden bewerkt en vervolgens met een scanning-elektronenmicroscoop bekeken. Integratie van deze apparaten heeft de DualBeam opgeleverd, waarmee in één preparaatruimte ultrafijne bewerkingen tot stand komen, die direct met hoge resolutie kunnen worden waargenomen.
