De IXUS is de kleinste zoomcamera ter wereld. Om dat te bereiken zijn een aantal ruimtebesparende technieken bijeengebracht waarvan hier een overzicht wordt gegeven. De camera heeft de afmetingen van een pakje sigaretten (60x88x26mm) en is voorzien van alle moderne gemakken, zoals zoom, autofocus, flitser en drie verschillende beeldformaten van normaal tot panorama. De diverse functies zijn instelbaar en worden door een microprocessor gestuurd.
