In optische telescopen worden deformeerbare spiegels gebruikt om verstoring door atmosferische turbulentie te corrigeren. Om een betere beeldkwaliteit te bereiken, ontwikkelden onderzoekers van de TU Delft, TU/e en TNO Industrie en Techniek gezamenlijk een adaptieve spiegel met (potentieel) duizenden actuatoren. Dat resulteerde onder meer in prototypes met spiegeldiameters van 50 mm en 150 mm, een octrooi en een groot aantal wetenschappelijke publicaties, presentaties op conferenties en vakbeurzen. TNO gaat de technologie vermarkten, in eerste instantie in de astronomie.
