Nanotechnologie wordt vaak gezien als verlengstuk van de precisietechnologie, maar nanotechnologie heeft zijn wortels in de fysica en precisietechnologie is uit de klassieke werktuigbouwkunde ontstaan. Daarbij is nanptechnologie een ‘bottom-down’-discipline, die probeert iets nuttigs voort te brengen vanuit de kleinste deeltjes en is precisietechnologie een ‘top-down’-discipline, die vanuit de zichtbare werkelijkheid afdaalt naar steeds kleinere details. Zullen nanotechnologie en precisietechnologie naar elkaar toegroeien en elkaar uiteindelijk ontmoeten?
