Fluorescentie microscopie: principe en toepassingen

Sommige stoffen kunnen geabsorbeerde energie weer afstaan door licht uit te zenden. Men noemt dit verschijnsel luminiscentie. Indien de geabsorbeerde energie in de vorm van licht is opgenomen, spreekt men van fotoluminiscentie, waarbij onderscheid wordt gemaakt tussen fluorescentie en fosforescentie. Fluorescentie is gedefinieerd als het uitzenden van licht tijdens (eigenlijk “zeer kort na”) de absorptie van licht van een andere lichtbron.
