De Hermes Robot Arm

De hermes Robot Arm (Hera) is een geavanceerde robot voor telemanipulatie operaties in de ruimte, Hera vormt een onderdeel van het Europese ruimteveer Hermes, een bemand voertuig voor onderhoud en bevoorrading van elementen van de EUropese infrastructuur in de ruimte. Hera combineert precisiemechanismen met uitgebreide computerbesturing, die het de bestuurder mogelijk maken om aan boorde van Hermes tal van operaties in de nabijheid van het ruimteveer uit te voeren. Dit artikel geest een beeld van de opzet van het voorontwerp van Hera, dat vooraf gaat aan het eigenlijke ontwerp en het fabricageproces van de arm.
