In steeds meer industriële toepassingen wordt inkjettechnologie gebruikt om vloeistof te verspuiten, zoals bij de productie van OLED-displays of in apparatuur voor medische analyse. De eisen aan de betrouwbaarheid van de printkop zijn hier extreem hoog. Om daaraan tegemoet te komen, hebben onderzoekers van DIMES TU Delft een slimme spuitmond ontwikkeld, voorzien van een capacitatieve sensor. Deze kan realtime informatie verschaffen over de gegenereerde druppel. De sensor is met behulp van microsysteemtechnologie in de printkop geïntegreerd. Daarnaast is kennis opgedaan over het meten van kleine capaciteitvariaties, en resulteerde het project in diverse publicaties in wetenschappelijke tijdschriften en presentaties op congressen. Het onderzoek wordt bij DIMES TU Delft voortgezet.
