EVENT 28 September 2023

Lunch Lecture November hosted by Nobleo

Design, validation, and implementation of a negative stiffness mechanism using magnets

About this event

When designing machines for micrometer or smaller accuracies, flexure mechanisms are often a favorite choice. These mechanisms offer a lot of beneficial properties, but also come with drawbacks. One of those drawbacks is actuation stiffness. Sometimes this stiffness can result in excessive actuation forces and in turn lead to large and bulky actuators. One way to combat this is with the use of a negative stiffness mechanism. This is often achieved using buckled flexures, but in this talk a negative stiffness concept using magnets is shown. From concept idea, to FuMo to final implementation in a product.

Spreker: Jerrel Unkel, Mechatronics Engineer, Nobleo Technology
