Title: Automated Placement of Micronuts for Laser Spotwelding
About this event
Many mass-produced electronic products contain welded micronuts which form the mounting points of subcomponents. This assembly process is challenging due to the small size of the micronuts (M1), limiting manual processes in speed and placement accuracy. Additionally, weld spatters are a big risk for product quality. An automated process has been developed that can place nuts with high precision and repeatability, by using flexible alignment features. The effect of weld spatters are mitigated using upside-down welding. High machine throughput is achieved by exploiting parallel processes. Extensive use of early validation in the design process, proved to be effective.
