Call for a short abstract.

Following up on earlier successful editions, we are organizing the 6th edition of the DSPE Symposium on Opto-mechatronics for October 8, 2024 at Mikrocentrum in Veldhoven. Save the date!
For this edition, we have chosen the theme ‘Opto-mechatronics meets Electron Optics’
In this edition, we want to focus on systems based on electron beam and ion beam optics. These complex opto-mechatronics systems with great resolving power, are used in multiple applications, like electron-microscopes, electron or ion beam lithography systems and tools for pico-meter level ion beam figuring.

We invite you to submit a short abstract for a presentation, poster before April 15, 2024

Mikroniek February issue: High-Tech Systems

The February issue of Mikroniek, click here for a first impression, is devoted to the Theme of High - Tech Systems. The main theme feature proposes an input-shaping-based design method for reducing vibrations in robotic systems. Other Articles feature the introduction of mechantronics in the synchotron community and a report of the ACCESS project mini-symposium on contamination control. Also in this issue, a report of the Techcafé on working together as in the once famous NatLab is there a follow-up for that hotbed of unexpected ideas and solutions?

This Mikroniek will appear on February 23.

  • Erik Tempelman, Professor TU Delft
  • Tim van Kampen, Technisch Directeur Ceratec technische keramiek
  • Robin Hollebeek, docent Leidse Instrumentmakers School
  • Jack Cooijmans, R&D manager Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Lunch lecture March hosted by TU/Delft

Stinging success: drawing parallels between wasps and needles.
The ovipositor of a parasitic wasp is a long (±5mm) and thin (30-50µm), needle-like structure used to lay eggs inside wood. Using a smart mechanism, the wasp can steer and position the ovipositor inside solid substrates like wood without buckling. Inspired by the anatomy of wasp ovipositors, we have developed medical needles with a diameter below 1 mm capable of self-propelling through tissue with an external push force near zero. In a new prototype that is currently under development, we aim to extend the self-propelled needle with steering capabilities.

Speaker: Jette Bloemberg, PhD Candidate TU Delft, Mechanical Engineering
This lecture will start at: March 4 on 12:02pm (Teams digital and only for members of the DSPE)
Send an email to info@dspe.nl for registration.

Design Principles for Precision Mechatronics
DDPM: A collection of applications categorized in themes known from construction principles. In the coming year(s), we write a book and a website containing examples of precision mechatronics elements. DSPE members can contribute by writing clear examples to be freely used. Company and designer can be mentioned. Examples should no be complete systems.
